Helen has lived in Westerham since 1989. Married with three grown up children, she spent her working career as a Human Resources professional. Helen is a Trustee of Bowles Rocks, an outdoor education centre, and of St Mary’s Westerham Heritage Trust. She also sings in the church choir. Co-opted onto the Council in 2010, she stood for election in 2011, 2015 and 2019. Helen sits on the Finance and General Purposes Committee. She was one of the founders of Westerham’s Food Bank which she still helps run. Any spare time is filled with Granny duties.
The Town Council is very proud that Helen won the Councillor of the Year Award at the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) Star Councils Awards 2016. The Judges said: “Helen has been a town councillor since 2010 and has packed a lot in this time. She has worked closely with fellow councillors and officers to raise the profile, achievements and competence of the council.
“The judging panel admired the way that Helen puts consultation, communication and engagement with the community at the very heart of her councillor activities. But perhaps the most rewarding according to the panel was her engagement with local primary school children whose views on the future of their town which were factored into the council’s strategy.”
