Our Town: Our Future

Posted on Aug 24, 2018

How might Westerham look in 2035? Where might new houses, a new industrial site, a bypass be sited?  If you want to know how your town might develop come along to the public meeting on Monday 3rd September, 7pm, Westerham Hall, where the Town Council hope to have a first draft of their response to SDC’s Local Plan consultation.

Westerham Town Council has an information room open during office hours: drop in and see the information available.

Town Councillors will be at various events around the town with information.  They will also be contacting the town’s organisations and groups to gather their views. Saturday 25th August: Information stall on the Green at the Summertime Celebration.

Sevenoaks District Council have published their first draft of the Local Plan which sets out those sites within Westerham – and the rest of the district – which might be suitable for development.  The fact that sites are included in this draft does not necessarily mean that they will be in the final version which will go to the Planning Inspector, an official responsible to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, who will decide if the plan is acceptable.

At this stage SDC is asking statutory bodies (eg Highways Agency, Environment Agency, Kent County Council) for their views on whether the developments are feasible, but they also want the community’s view.  Consultation opened on 16th July and ends 10th September

You will be able to comment via SDC’s website www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/draftlocalplan. Alternatively, you can email planning.policy@sevenoaks.gov.uk or write to Planning Policy, Sevenoaks District Council, Argyle Road, Sevenoaks TN13 1HG with your comments.

Watch out for more information on our website, Facebook, noticeboards and social media.

CONSULTATION DEADLINE – Monday 10th September: 5pm . This is the last date for making your views known to SDC.
