About

Committee Chair: Jonathan Lord

The committee’s primary role is to ensure that allotments and open spaces owned or leased by the council are maintained and improved for the benefit and enjoyment of residents and visitors to Westerham and Crockham Hill.

Allotments:

The Council owns the Currant Hill and Farley sites and rents the Bloomfield site from Squerryes Estate. We manage these sites, granting tenancies of individual plots, fix and collect rents to ensure that these sites are self financing, we maintain boundaries and water supplies fixes, monitors the usage of plots, work with tenants to deal with their requests and award annual prizes.

Open Spaces:

The Council owns King George’s Field including the land to the west comprising Costells Meadow car park and the land between it and the footbridge to the Darenth car park. We are currently undertaking a multi-year project to dramatically improve this facility.

The Council also owns The Green, Russell House, Crockham Hill Village Garden, the Granville Road, Madan Road greens and part of the Churchill School Playing Field (let to the School) as well as other smaller green areas in Westerham.

The Committee is responsible for the maintenance of these areas, the statues on The Green, benches, the bus shelter, cycle stands, the flower beds as well as the electricity supply. The Committee manages the use of all these areas by community groups and charities.

The committee is also responsible in conjunction with the Westerham Society for organising the hanging baskets that help make Westerham an attractive place for all our residents and visitors.
